The Ennerdale Country House Hotel is a Grade II listed building, full of character with five acres of landscaped gardens and an Italian fountain. From there, you can travel around the stunning Lake District and visit some of the many attractions on the West Coast of England, including the pretty seaside town of St. Bees and the end/start of the Coast-to-Coast Walk. Dinner is available at an extra cost at the hotel in The Fountain Room Restaurant, or if you’re willing to explore the nearby area you can wander up the road to Cleator Moor and down in Egremont. In the morning, you’ll both have a full English breakfast to ready you for the day ahead.

As part of your package, head out on one of England’s oldest narrow-gauge railways for a scenic 14-mile return journey through the beautiful Eskdale Valley. After soaking up the spectacular scenery across the Scafell range and Ravenglass Estuary, enjoy a cream tea for two, with sandwiches and scones alongside tea or coffee in the Fellbites Café.

• What happens on the day?

   

  On arrival at your hotel, you’ll be greeted by a member of staff and checked into your pre-booked twin or double room. You’re free to spend your time at the hotel as you wish, enjoying the facilities and exploring the surrounding area. In the morning, you’ll each enjoy a tasty full English breakfast to ready you for the day ahead.

  As part of your experience, head to the Ravenglass Terminus where you’ll get your tickets at the office before boarding your train. While every effort is made to provide a steam train for most journeys, occasionally a diesel engine will be provided to ensure the trains all run on time. A single journey takes 40 minutes, and at either end, you’re free to explore the cafes, gift shops and local area before returning to where you started.

  There’s also a cream tea to enjoy in the Fellbites Café, with finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and your choice of tea or coffee. An ideal accompaniment to some Lake District sightseeing.

  One Night Stay 

  You are able to book your one night break for any day of the week throughout the year (subject to some exclusions).

  Please note Friday and Saturday nights in December and January are excluded.

  We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

  Your experience will be for one night. Check into the hotel will be after 15.00 and departure by 11.00 the following morning.

  Steam Train Trip and Cream Tea

  This experience is available seven days a week. Please check timetable for opening hours of scheduled services. Cream Tea can be taken before or after the train journey.

  Please note – July and August are peak times of the season and availability is very limited. This experience is not available between November and January.

  We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability. Please state any dietary requirements on booking.

  You should allow between 2 to 3 hours for the whole experience.
